Christ Church Ithan Jazz Vespers Presents:

Alexandra Day

Alexandra Day was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She studied piano at Messiah College and classical voice at Temple University. While her academic career at Temple was dominated by recitals and opera, her professional and creative musical expressions have taken many forms, included signing with a pop cover band, touring in church groups, arranging for an avant garde dance piece, performing locally as a singer-songwriter, and exploring the jazz idiom.

Alexandra also leads her own jazz ensemble which she books and writes for as well. She performs extensively at Philadelphia jazz venues including Chris' Jazz Cafe, Zanzibar Blue, and Ortliebs's Jazzhaus. Her trio is also a local favorite in the Philadelphia swing dance scene. She is a soloist for the annual performance of The Best of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts, the capstone event at the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. In 2007, she released her first CD, entitled "One Glance" , which showcases her original music and her interpretations of standards. Currently, she is working on a new album of original songs, to be released in March, and planning an East Coast tour to follow.
